Dr. Suraj Yengde is one of India’s leading scholars and public intellectuals. He is a prolific writer and an activist raising awareness about Caste and Caste-based discrimination worldwide. For someone who has a large body of written work and with plethora of resources to share with a community, Suraj was looking to build a website that encompasses it all. 

I worked with Dr. Yengde and his team to understand the information to be made available to the public and co-created a structure to access it with ease.  We created a website that houses huge amounts of writings, research and resources related to Caste, Race and Oppression.

To go along with his great personality, Suraj has a great hairstyle. His peculiar style is not just unique but also bold. 

His hairstyle prompted us to develop an identifier from the silhouette of his face with bold colours and noise texture for hair. 

For someone who works mostly in the academic space, we decided to use an elegant but simple serif title typeface and paired it with a body typeface that supports multiple languages. 

The colours were inspired by prominent individuals in the Dalit community who have inspired others to excel in their craft. 

The photos are treated with a duotone effect to bring in the funk often associated with music.

The website served two functions: housing all of Dr. Yengde's work and social profiles & providing academic resources & articles for upliftment of Dalits.

We separated the two sections thematically with colour to create the differentiation between personal and public content.
